Between difficult access to healthcare and social exclusion, living with skin conditions is a real struggle. To better understand the feelings of French people suffering from skin diseases, Sanofi commissioned the IFOP polling institute to conduct a survey.
The IFOP study for Sanofi was carried out by online questionnaire from July 21 to 24, 2023, among a nationally representative sample of 2011 people aged 15 and over.
A path to care… fraught with pitfalls
The more the years go by, the more the French believe it is very complicated to get a consultation with a dermatologist (73% in 2023 versus 46% in 2011).
“Access to medical care is hampered by appointment times that now amount to more than three months,” explains IFOP. “As a result, almost one patient in two has had to give up having skin problems treated by a dermatologist.” And this applies to both mild and severe skin conditions.
A painfull feeling
French people suffering from skin diseases report that it is often complicated to feel at ease in public spaces.
“Nearly one French person in two says they have a complex about their skin. In a society where aesthetics take precedence, skin is a source of concern and discomfort for a large proportion of the population, particularly women.”
In fact, 57% of women feel unwell because of their skin condition.
