Egypt, with a population of approximately 85 million, represents one of the most promising fragrance and cosmetics markets in the Middle East. In 2014, the size of the cosmetics market is estimated at around USD 2.32 billion, with an estimated growth rate of 6%.

Description of the market

The cosmetics market is driven by demand from the wealthy and westernized segment of the Egyptian population, which represents 10% of the population (about 8.5 million inhabitants). This percentage includes customers who seek the best quality and consumers who aim for social prestige by purchasing luxury brands.

In 2014, the value of Egyptian imports of cosmetic products is USD 272 million.

With regard to local production, about 85% of the products consumed in 2013 were divided into three categories: - hygiene products, personal care products and shampoos, produced by multinational subsidiaries; - Hair products, certain mid-range hygiene or skin care products that were classified in licensed production; - own-brand production, represented by a multitude of small companies and a few large local producers, which mainly produce products for the general public.
