On 15 April 2022, the Decree n°2022-549 of 14 April 2022 on “the national strategy for the reduction, reuse and recycling of single-use plastic packaging” was published in the Official Journal of French Republic. It formalises the adoption of this strategy and its objectives.
The essence of the Decree can be found in one sentence: “The national strategy for the reduction, reuse, re-employment and recycling of single-use plastic packaging is adopted”.

Targets to 2025
The document takes up the objectives set by a first Decree published in April 2021:
• 20% reduction in single-use plastic packaging by the end of 2025, with at least half achieved through re-use and recycling
• Aim for a 100% reduction in unnecessary single-use plastic packaging by the end of 2025
• Aim for 100% recycling of single-use plastic packaging by 1 January 2025 and, to achieve this, a target that all single-use plastic packaging placed on the market should have an operational recycling stream by 1 January 2025
