The French cosmetics sector in the age of energy sobriety

The French cosmetics sector has long been committed to reducing its environmental footprint and energy consumption. In order to help the whole sector to accelerate this process, the Federation of Beauty Companies (FEBEA) has just announced new commitments to make energy saving a priority for all.

While the French Government has just announced its energy sobriety plan, the FEBEA surveyed its members to measure their commitment in this area.
This consultation confirms that companies in the cosmetics sector have been making efforts for a long time to make their energy consumption more responsible and sustainable: 96% of respondents have already implemented energy saving measures and one third confirm that they have reduced their energy consumption over the last ten years.

Actions for energy sobriety

Among the concrete measures that cosmetic companies have already implemented in their energy efficiency approach: closing doors to the outside world is the most common (97%), followed by turning off lights (93%), adapting the temperature of the premises ex aequo with employee awareness (90%), encouraging sustainable mobility (83%), as well as optimising existing industrial tools (79%).
In addition, one third of the companies responding already use renewable energy.

To go further in this approach, cosmetic companies plan to invest in renewable energies (43%) with priorities, depending on their needs, location and size: the installation of photovoltaic parks, the development of geothermal projects and biomass boilers.
