Weleda: Increasing sustainability

Weleda : vers toujours plus de durabilité

As a pioneer of German natural cosmetics, Weleda is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. And since it’s not every day that you reach this age, the brand took the opportunity to look back on its history, its values, but above all to communicate about the future and its future challenges.

“It was with great audacity and commitment that our founders innovated 100 years ago, inspired by the deep bond between man and nature. Since 1921, Weleda has been developing natural and organic cosmetics, homeopathic and herbal medicines, as well as food supplements,” explains Weleda.

Within a century, the brand has established itself in 55 countries and, according to a study conducted by the Chamber of Crafts and Trades, has succeeded in becoming the natural care brand with the highest market share (66%) in the pharmacy/parapharmacy distribution network.

Eco-responsibility as a figurehead

Respect for the planet is Weleda’s credo. The brand prides itself on having:
• 1000 raw materials of 100% natural origin
• 8 biodynamic medicinal plant gardens in the world containing 260 varieties of different species
• 98% of waste revalorized
After having had its ranges labeled by Natrue, Weleda obtained the UEBT ESS (Union for Ethical Biotrade and Ethical Sourcing System) certification. “This certification guarantees the preservation of biodiversity, sustainable local practices and fair remuneration for all actors in the supply chain. We are working with more than 50 partners worldwide and we hope to reach 30% biodynamic cultivation by 2022”.

Weleda also wants to support urban greening. …
