On 22 January 2024, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the recall notice template it is proposing as part of the implementation of the new General Product Safety Regulation. Interested parties have until 19 February 2024 to submit their comments.
Under the new General Product Safety Regulation, when information on a product safety recall is addressed to consumers in writing, it must take the form of a “recall notice”.
“This initiative sets out the recall notice template listing all the information that it must contain. The template will make it easier for businesses to issue recall notices and for consumers to identify them and be properly informed about product recalls,” the European Commission says.
The form provides space for: • The name of the brand and the name of the recalled product
• The picture of the product
• The product identification numbers (batch numer, seral number…)
• Information on where, when and by whom the product was sold
• The hazard the product poses
• What consumers should do
• The remedies available
• The contact point(s)…
Once finalised and validated, this recall notice template will be the only one to have to be used in Europe, from the date on which the General Product Safety Regulation comes into force.
