The purpose of a packaging is to protect a consumer good (cosmetic, food…). But do the French agree with this statement? To find out, All4Pack, organizer of the eponymous trade show, asked the IFOP polling institute to conduct a study with a representative panel of the French population.
This survey was conducted from a sample of 1003 individuals aged 18 years and older. It was conducted between May 13 and 15, 2020. Among the respondents, 52% were women and 48% were men.
First findings
Six out of ten French people consider packaging to be extremely or very useful. Seniors aged 65 and over are more likely to share this opinion (66%).
Packaging plays an essential role in the safety of products and therefore of consumers. The French clearly seem to be aware of this. “However, this feeling is confronted with a strong and perennial societal will to change the design and use of containers to better respond to environmental issues and challenges,” analyzes IFOP.
Thus, before the beginning of the health crisis, eight out of ten French people preferred products with less packaging.
At the height of the pandemic, 40% of the panel began to prefer well-packaged items. This is particularly true of Millenials and people living in large urban areas.
Today, one out of two people continues to reduce their consumption of packaging.
