2022: 213 cosmetics in the Safety Gate

2022 : 213 cosmétiques dans le Safety Gate

213 cosmetic products were banned or recalled in 2022 by the Safety Gate, the EU rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. The vast majority of these were due to the presence of more or less recently banned ingredients.

Of the 213 products included:
• 190 represented a chemical risk, due to the presence of prohibited ingredients
• 20 represented a microbiological risk, due to contamination by micro-organisms
• 2 a choking risk, due to their resemblance to a food product
• 1 a cutting risk due to a defective glass bottle

The 190 products targeted for chemical risk, including 49 perfumes and 44 skin lightening products, all contained prohibited ingredients:
• Butylphenyl Methylpropional (banned since 1 March 2022 by Regulation 2021/1902): 75 products
• 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde (banned since 23 August 2019 by Regulation 2017/1410): 31 products
• Hydroquinone: 24 products
• Methylisothiazolinone: 20 products
• Mercury: 10 products
• Clobetasol Propionate: 7 products
• p-Phenylenediamine: 6 products
• Isobutyl paraben: 4 products…
