You may have them in your cupboards. Maybe, you use them, still. Beware: they are dangerous, illegal, harmful… and are the subject of a recall or ban by the European sanitary authorities. Underneath, you may find all the cosmetic products targeted by the RAPEX alert system this week: anti-wrinkle rejuvenating day cream containing the mixture of MI/MCI preservatives and a plastick duck on a soap that can choke children who swallow it.

Danger : The cream contains methylisothiazolinone (MI) and methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI). Dermal contact with MCI/MI-containing products can provoke allergic contact dermatitis to sensitised persons. According to the Cosmetic Products Regulation, MCI/MI is prohibited in leave-on cosmetic products and shall not be made available on the Union market as from 16 April 2016.

Danger : The plastic material of the duck contains di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured value 26% by weight). This phthalate may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to the reproductive system. Moreover, the duck is small enough to be put in the mouth by children which can cause them to choke on it. According to the REACH Regulation, DEHP, DBP and BBP phthalates are prohibited in all toys and childcare articles. The product does not comply with the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1.
