January 1, 2021 marked the end of the last phase of Brexit: in a nutshell, now we are really there. On each side of the Channel, the first effects are being felt, especially for the cosmetics sector. The United Kingdom is organizing the replacement of European provisions and tools for managing the placing on the market and product safety, when French Customs reminds companies of the new formalities to be taken into account.

In a press release dated 31 December 2020, the French customs services pointed out that the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union has meant that since 1 January 2021, customs formalities have been reinstated: from now on, companies must file a customs declaration for all trade in goods (import/export) between the United Kingdom and the European Union.
The agreement concluded on 24 December 2020 between the European Union and the United Kingdom does not call this obligation into question,“ says Customs. “It does, however, avoid significant additional economic costs for economic operators.”
Economic operators can apply for total exemption from customs duties subject to compliance with the rules on the origin of goods, which are set out in Chapter 2 of Title I of Part II of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement concluded on 24 December.

In practice, the export process from France to the United Kingdom takes place in four stages:
• The anticipation of customs formalities before the electronic registration of the number plate and customs documents (pairing) on the EU side
