CLH consultation for Thymol

Consultation CLH pour  le Thymol

On 3 July 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on Spain’s proposal for harmonised classification and labelling of Thymol (a fragrance ingredient). The consultation will run until 1 September 2023.

The substance “5-methyl-2-(propan-2-yl)phenol” (No.CAS: 89-83-8, No.EC: 201-944-8, INCI: Thymol) is listed in the CosIng with the functions of Denaturant, Fragrance, Oral care and Skin conditioning - miscellaneous.
It is not currently regulated by Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009.

It is listed in Annex VI/604-032-00-1 of CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the classifications : • Acute Tox. 4*, H302 - Harmful if swallowed
• Skin Corr. 1B, H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
• Aquatic Chronic 2, H411 - Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects
