CLH consultation on the classification as CMR 1B of 4 fragrance ingredients

Consultation CLH sur la classification en CMR 1B de 4 ingrédients de parfum

On 24 July 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on Sweden’s proposal for harmonised classification and labelling of four fragrance ingredients as “Toxic for reproduction” category 1 B. The consultation is open until 22 September 2023.

p-Cymene

The substance “p-cymene; 1-isopropyl-4-methylbenzene” (No.CAS: 99-87-6, No.EC: 202-796-7, INCI: p-Cymene) is listed in the CosIng with the function : “Fragrance”.
It is not currently regulated by Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, but it is in Annex VI/601-094-00-1 of CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications :
• Flam. Liq. 3, H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour.
• Acute Tox. 3, H331 - Toxic if inhaled - ATE = 3 mg/l (vapours).
• Asp. Tox. 1, H304 - May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways.
• Aquatic Chronic 2, H411 - Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
