CLH consultations for Methyldibromo Glutaronitrile and Isophorone Diisocyanate

Consultations CLH pour le Methyldibromo glutaronitrile et le Isophorone diisocyanate

On 8 August 2022, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched two consultations on proposals for harmonised classification and labelling from Germany for Isophorone diisocyanate, a film-forming agent, and from the Czech Republic for Methyldibromo glutaronitrile, a preservative. These consultations are open until 7 October 2022.

Isophorone Diisocyanate

Isophorone Diisocyanate (CAS: 4098-71-9; CE: 223-861-6) is a film forming listed in the CosIng.
Currently, it is not regulated by Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009
It is listed in Annex VI to the CLP Regulation, entry 615-008-00-5, with the following classifications:
• Acute Tox. 3, H331 - Toxic if inhaled
• STOT SE 3, H335 - May cause respiratory irritation
• Skin Irrit. 2, H315 - Causes skin irritation
• Eye Irrit. 2, H319 - Causes serious eye irritation
• Resp. Sens. 1, H334 (C ≥ 0.5%) - May cause allergy or asthma symptoms or breathing difficulties if inhaled
• Skin Sens. 1, H317 (C ≥ 0.5%) - May cause an allergic skin reaction
• Aquatic Chronic 2, H411 - Toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects

The German proposal

Germany proposes to delete the classification STOT SE 3 and to reclassify the substance as follows.
Hazard class and Category codes, Hazard statement codes:
• Acute Tox. 1, H330 - Fatal if inhaled
• Skin Corr. 1, H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
• Eye Dam.1, H318 - Causes serious eye damage
• Resp. Sens. 1, H334 (C ≥ 0.5%) - May cause allergy or …
