CMR classification under consultation for 3 cosmetic ingredients

Classification CMR en consultation pour 3 ingrédients cosmétiques

On 19 February 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched consultations on proposals for the harmonised classification and labelling of three ingredients that may be used in cosmetics, particularly as reprotoxics. These consultations are open until 19 April 2024.

Nitromethane

Nitromethane (CAS No.75-52-5; EC No.200-876-6 ; INCI: Nitromethane) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with the function: Anticorrosive.
It is currently regulated by Annex III/18 of European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, which limits its maximum concentration in finished products to 0.3%.
It is listed in Annex VI/609-036-00-7 of European CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications:
• Flam. Liq. 3, H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour
• Acute Tox. 4*, H302 - Harmful if swallowed

Belgium proposes to classify the substance as follows.
