On 10 June 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on the Netherlands’ proposal for harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) of synthetic amorphous silica (SAS) nano. This consultation is open until 9 August 2024.
As far as cosmetics are concerned, this consultation covers nano synthetic amorphous silicas without surface modification, which have been assigned CAS numbers:
• 112945-52-5
• 112926-00-8
The INCIs “Silica” and “Hydrated silica” fall within this scope.
These substances are not currently regulated by European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, nor listed in Annex VI of European CLP Regulation 1272/2008.
The Netherlands proposes the following classification.
