Since 11 July 2013, a new European Regulation, the Regulation n° 1223/2009, governs cosmetics. It has been designed to provide the consumer with an increased safety, with more pieces of information and an enhanced transparency. Since 11 July 2013, all the cosmetics available on the market in Europe (from shower-gels to tooth-pastes, from make-up products to sunscreens, to perfumes, also), manufactured in Europe or imported from other countries, shall meet the requirements of the new European Cosmetics Regulation, adopted in 2009, as a replacement to the Cosmetics Directive.
