The SCCS has just published its final Opinion on the safety of Dihydroxyacetone as a hair dye ingredient. It was adopted at the plenary meeting on 3 and 4 March 2020, after the end of the comment period following its initial publication and review by the Scientific Committee.
Background
DHA is currently not regulated under the Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No.1223/2009.
The SCCS was requested to assess the safety of DHA intended to be used as hair colouring ingredient in leave-on applications up to a maximum concentration of 6.25%.
The SCCS published its Opinion in November 2019.
