Potassium Bromide (CAS No.7758-02-3, EC No.231-830-3) is listed in the CosIng with the function: Viscosity controlling.
It is not currently regulated by the Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 nor is it listed in Annex VI of the CLP Regulation 1272/2008.

In Europe

In March 2024, the Risk Assessment Committee (RAC) of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) gave its opinion on the CLH classification proposal for the substance, submitted by Sweden.
In its Opinion, the Committee concluded that the substance should be classified as follows:
• Repr. 1B, H360FD - May damage fertility. May damage the unborn child
• Lact., H362 - May cause harm to breast-fed children
• STOT SE 3, H336 - May cause drowsiness or dizziness
• STOT RE 1, H372 (nervous system, thyroid) - Causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure

In Great Britain

In its Opinion published on 27 November, the HSE proposes the following classifications:
• Repr. 1B, H360Fd - May damage fertility. Suspected of damaging the unborn child
• Lact., H362 - May cause harm to breast-fed children
• STOT SE 3, H336 - May cause drowsiness or dizziness
• STOT RE 1, H372 (nervous system) - Causes damage to organs through prolonged or …
