The agenda included an official welcome by the European Commission and the government of Luxembourg, and discussions on the future challenges of the committee, synergies between EU risk assessment bodies, ensuring robust risk assessments, and the potential impact of scientific opinions. Practicalities such as the mission and tasks of the scientific committees were also covered.
The SCCS elected Qasim Chaudhry (UK) as Chair, Vera Rogiers (BE) and Pieter-Jan Coenraads (NL) as Vice-Chairs.
For SCCS, the main work for this term includes cosmetic ingredients with a focus on nanomaterials and alternative methods due to animal testing ban.
