Intention de classification CLH de l'Hexamethylindanopyran en CMR et PE

On 15 November 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published France’s intention of an harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) for Hexamethylindanopyran, a fragrance ingredient, as a reprotoxic and endocrine disruptor substance. 1,3,4,6,7,8-Hexahydro-4,6,6,7,8,8-hexamethylcyclopenta-γ-2-benzopyran (CAS No.1222-05-5; EC No.214-946-9; INCI: Hexamethylindanopyran) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with the functions: Fragrance, Perfuming.
It has been added in Annex III/336 of the European Regulation 1223/2009 by Regulation 2023/1545 on “new” allergens, to make it subject to compulsory labelling as soon as its concentration exceeds 0.001% in leave-on products and 0.01% in rinse-off products.
It is listed in Annex VI/603-212-00-7 of European CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications:
• Aquatic Acute 1, H400 - Very toxic to aquatic life
• Aquatic Chronic 1, H410 - Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects

France, which is assessing the substance as part of CoRAP, is proposing to add two classifications:
• Reproductive toxicity
• Endocrine disruptor for human health

If the process is completed and these classifications become effective, Hexamethylindanopyran could be listed as a CMR and a ED, and its use could be banned in cosmetic products in Europe.
