Nanos: Europe calls for experts

Article 16 of the new Cosmetic Regulation requires any cosmetic product containing nanomaterials to be notified to the Commission six months prior to being placed on the market. In case of concern, the Commission will request the SCCS to give its opinion.To meet the expected demand for safety assessments of nanomaterials in cosmetic products, Europe calls for experts.

The aim of this call is to identify relevant experts who will assist the work of the SCCS.

The Working Group is looking for experts with good knowledge in relation to nanomaterials, and in particular those used in cosmetic products, in the following areas:
• characterisation
• chemistry
• systemic toxicity
• genotoxicity
• human exposure (including inhalation)
• in vitro and alternative methods
• risk assessment for human health

Experts with relevant professional experience are invited to register to the European Commission Scientific Committees' database of experts. The deadline for submission is 15 October 2012.
