The regulation 2016/266 of 7 December 2015, published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 1st March 2016, includes 20 new and updated test methods in the regulation 440/2008 laying down test methods for the purposes of the determination of the physicochemical properties, toxicity and ecotoxicity of chemicals to be applied for the purposes of regulation REACH.
According to the 'Whereas' of this regulation 2016/66, it is necessary to update regulation 440/2008 to include new and updated test methods recently adopted by the OECD in order to take into account technical progress, and to ensure the reduction in the number of animals to be used for experimental purposes.
This adaptation contains twenty test methods: one new method for the determination of a physicochemical property, eleven new test methods and three updated test methods for the assessment of ecotoxicity, and five new test methods to assess the environmental fate and behaviour.
This regulation shall enter into force on the third day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union, and shall be binding in its entirety and directly applicable in all Member States.
