The SCCS has just published its final Opinion on the safety of Zinc Pyrithione as an anti-dandruff. It was adopted at the plenary meeting on 3 and 4 March 2020, after the end of the comment period following its initial publication and review by the Scientific Committee.
Background

According to Article 15(2) of the Cosmetics Regulation, the use in cosmetic products of substances classified as CMR substances, of category 1A or 1B shall be prohibited unless exempted by way of exception.
In April 2019, a safety dossier on ZPT was submitted by Cosmetics Europe to demonstrate the safety of the ingredient as an anti-dandruff in rinse-off hair products.
The SCCS published its Opinion in December 2019.
