Just set up, and still very discreetly effective in reality (according to the Cosmébio association, there are only some 300 products labelled”COSMOS-Organic”, especially in Germany, Italy or Russia, while in France, we have not yet gone beyond the simple mixing of a few vegetable oils), the COSMOS-Standard standard has just undergone its first revision.

It was planned, the press release states, since article 1.3 of the reference framework stipulates that it will be the subject “of periodic revisions and amendments, to take into account the availability of ingredients and technology, as well as the development of the organic and natural cosmetics sector”.

The first revision process was thus initiated in March of this year. Its objective, the communiqué states, was “to adapt to current developments, streamline and simplify the certification process, while ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of COSMOS-Standard”.

The main changes

Several parts of the repository are affected by this first revision.

• The approval process for raw materials has been simplified. In particular, the questionnaire has been shortened and a cross procedure introduced where data on biodegradability or toxicity to aquatic environments are not available.
