The list of major patent applicants published in 2015 at the INPI confirms the trends of recent years: continued strong concentration by France's top 20 applicants and major industrial groups, which are consolidating their innovation policies over time by aligning their industrial property strategies with the company's overall strategy. Cosmetics, with the L'Oréal group in the lead, is positioned as an active sector.

This year, once again, the major players in the automotive sector remain in the lead, followed by the main industrial sectors where France is at the forefront: cosmetics The Group's activities include: aeronautics, telecommunications, electronics, chemistry and energy. 18 companies or research organizations have had at least 100 published patent applications.

In 10 years, a significant concentration of the number of published patent applications

The 2015 ranking shows an ever-increasing concentration of the top 20 applicants, who account for 41.2% of published patent applications, compared with 48.6% for the top 50. In 2014, they accounted for 40.3% and only 25.2% of the patent applications published in 2004.

This very significant progress can be interpreted as industrial property that is increasingly integrated into the development strategies of major groups and French research organizations, in a competitive context that has intensified significantly in terms of innovation and R&D.
