"Nature Positive": L'Occitane's new biodiversity strategy

"Nature Positive" : la nouvelle stratégie biodiversité de L'Occitane

On the occasion of the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) World Congress held in Marseille from September 3 to 10, 2021, the L’Occitane Group presented its new environmental preservation plan. “Nature Positive” is a five-part program that covers the entire value chain.

Protecting the planet has always been part of L’Occitane’s DNA. But in the face of the climate emergency, the brand wanted to strengthen its commitment. This is how “Nature Positive”, the new strategy was born. It is declined in several points.

Measuring
In 2016, a diagnostic study showed that most of our brand’s impact on biodiversity is linked to our sourcing of plant-based raw materials and our packaging. As of 2022, we intend to deepen this analysis, the group explains.

Avoid
By 2025, L’Occitane wants all of its plant raw materials to come from crops that are committed to positive approaches to biodiversity.

Reduce
Also by 2025, L’Occitane wants to reduce the total volume of plastic used for its packaging by 10%.

Restore and regenerate
Regenerative agriculture requires close partnerships, as in Burkina Faso for shea butter or in Provence for lavender, almond or verbena. By 2025, all of the Group’s main raw materials will be grown in accordance with the principles of sustainable agriculture, based on agro-ecological, organic, fair trade and ethical certifications,“ comments L’Occitane.
