The postponement by one year of the entry into force of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 “on the making available on the Union market and the export from the Union of certain commodities and products associated with deforestation and forest degradation” had been agreed but not yet legally formalised. This was achieved with the publication of Regulation (EU) 2024/3234 in the Official Journal of the European Union on 23 December 2024.

On 17 December 2024, the UK published Statutory Instrument 2024 No.1334. It includes a ban on 64 CMR substances (eight of which have INCI names), and new restrictions on kojic acid.

On 26 December 2024, the US FDA opened a consultation on a draft rule aimed at requiring talc-containing products to be tested for asbestos using standardised methods.

On 16 December 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on the Austria’s proposal for harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) of Aminomethyl Propanol, a buffering agent. This consultation is open until 14 February 2025.

These highly concentrated fragrances, using the rarest and noblest raw materials, are a real trend in perfumery! Initiated by niche perfumers (Maison Crivelli, Bon Parfumeur, BDK Parfums…), this trend is now spreading to legendary perfume houses like Guerlain, and top perfumers like Dominique Ropion, who has just launched his own brand of extracts. And their high price does nothing to dissuade their loyal public, who praise their tenacity!
