The DGCCRF has just published on its website a guide for managing alerts on non-food consumer products. The document is aimed at professionals: they will find all the information they need to manage the various stages of an alert concerning a dangerous product, from reporting to the market surveillance authorities to informing consumers.

The aim of this guide is to help professionals to determine the dangerous nature of a product as well as its level of risk, to organise, if necessary, its withdrawal from the market and to proceed with its recall by communicating quickly and effectively with consumers, in particular on the RappelConso website.

Professionals will find the necessary tools to identify the relevant regulations, assess the risks associated with the use of a product, determine the criteria for withdrawal or recall, report any dangerous product to the competent authority, trigger an alert and communicate with the general public.

This document is intended to facilitate coordination between the various actors involved in alert management. It is not intended to replace the organisation and the alert management system that each professional must put in place.

The guide is applicable to all non-food consumer products, for which alerts are handled, in general, by the DGCCRF. Some specific cases are detailed in the annex to the guide.

However, this document does not cover the procedures related to vigilance for the following products: cosmetics, tattoo products, plant protection products, medical devices and in vitro diagnostic medical devices. The obligations in this area and the useful contact …
