How do people in their fifties (and beyond) cope with ageing?

Comment les quinquagénaires (et plus) vivent-elles leur prise d'âge ?

To mark World Menopause Day on October 18, Humasana (online parapharmacy) and FLASH (data agency) wanted to better understand the relationship between women aged 50 and over and aging. To this end, the two organizations commissioned the IFOP polling institute to conduct a survey of a qualified sample.

The survey was conducted among a panel of 1004 women (aged 50 and over) representative of the French female population.
The interviews were conducted online between September 22 and 26, 2023.

The respondents indicate that they are not satisfied with the image they have in society. 28% of them think this way (versus 17% in 2007, according to the Ipsos study for Linéance).
They admit to having physical complexes because of aging.
They are not comfortable with the appearance of:
• their stomach (75%),
• their arms (64%),
• their face (61%),
• their thighs (52%),
• their chest (50%),
• their bust (47%),
• their buttocks (42%),
• their legs (42%).

“More than six in ten women (63%) would like to act more effectively on their stomach to limit the effects of aging. 50% of them said so in 2007,” indicates the IFOP.

According to the study's figures, 99% of panelists who admit to being self-conscious about the aging of at least one part of their body are very afraid of aging.
