On 17 January 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published Austria’s intention of an harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) for Dimethylaminopropylamine, that can be used in cosmetics, notably as a category 1B reprotoxic substance.

3-aminopropyldimethylamine (CAS No.109-55-7, EC No.203-680-9, INCI: Dimethylaminopropylamine) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with no function reported.
The substance is included in Annex III/62 of the European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, which limits trialkylamines, trialkanolamines and their salts to 2.5% in leave-on products, and details theconditions of use in order to prevent nitrosation phenomena.
It is also listed in Annex VI/612-061-00-6 of European CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications:
• Flam. Liq. 3, H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour
• Acute Tox. 4 (*), H302 - Harmful if swallowed
• Skin Corr. 1B, H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
• Skin Sens. 1, H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction

Austria intends to propose the following classifications:
• Flam. Liq. 3, H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour
• Acute Tox. 4, H302 - Harmful if swallowed
• Acute Tox. 3, H311 - Toxique par contact cutané
• Skin Corr. 1B, H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage
• Skin Sens. 1A, H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction
• Repr. 1B, H360 - May damage fertility or the unborn child
• STOT SE 3, H335 - May cause respiratory irritation
