On August 9, 2021, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has launched a consultation on a proposal for harmonized classification and labelling of Methylenedioxyphenyl Methylpropanal, used as a fragrance in cosmetics, due to its sensitizing potential. It is open until October 8, 2021.
α-methyl-1,3-benzodioxole-5-propionaldehyde (CAS: 1205-17-0 - CE: 204-498-2 - INCI: Methylenedioxyphenyl Methylpropanal) is listed in the CosIng with the function of “Perfuming”. It is not regulated by the Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009 and is not listed in Annex VI of the CLP Regulation.
Denmark proposes to classify the substance as Skin Sens. 1B with the hazard statement H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction, the pictogram GHS07 and the warning statement Wng (Warning).
The ECHA consultation is open until October 8, 2021.
