Hair: the triumph of powder textures

© CosmeticOBS - L'Observatoire des Cosmétiques

After the success of dry shampoos, here come powder conditioners and hair styling products. Light as the clouds and ultra-convenient, they do not need to be rinsed off, they suit all hair types, and they are time-saving. This texture, which is definitely on a roll on the hair care segment, allows for original creations.

It cannot but be an American trend, since hair care and styling products are more sophisticated and used much more regularly in the United States than in France.
One of the first to have banked on the powder texture is Ouai HairCare, the ultra-trendy brand chosen by Kim Kardashian and created by Jen Atkin (a hair stylist for stars, including Kim Kardashian), which has just arrived exclusively in Sephora stores. Among their latest innovations, there is the Wave Spray (50ml, €14), which offers an I-just-got-out-of-the-water look and the Texturizing Hair Spray, a half fixing
product, half dry shampoo (40g, €14 or 130g, €28). Both are available as a travel size, which makes it easier to test them without getting bankrupt. As a matter of fact, the brand got widely known for their Dry Shampoo with volcanic minerals and delicious perfume (130g, €26), but their most original creation is most probably their leave-on Dry Shampoo Foam (150g, €30 or 43g, €14), which combines foam and powder. It provides an instantaneous clean effect and more volume, without leaving any white residues or creating a wet aspect.

Dry conditioners

In hair salons, System Professional by Wella (which now belongs to the Coty group) is to launch one of the first dry conditioners in April, in the form of an ultra-light spray: Instant Energy CC61 (200ml, €39.50 or 75ml, €17.90). Both a hair care and styling product, this beautifying spray provides the hair with a soft feel, protects them from blow-drying and external aggressions, and fights against little curls, while leaving a subtle, pleasant perfume to refresh the hair. And the little extra is that the spray may be used on fine hair lengths, without making it heavier (before doing the hair to untangle it and protect hair fibres, or after blow-drying for silky, smooth hair that moves and bounces as you walk). Ideal for even more softness and a retouch any time of day, it reboosts the hairdo. It is actually the first time the EnergyCode™ complex so dear to Wella (it restores the natural balance of hair lipids and protects keratin), has been integrated to a spray.

We should also highlight Dry Bar’s Detox Dry Conditioner, which has just arrived in Sephora stores (100ml, €24.50). It untangles the hair without making it heavier and makes the set or blow-dry last longer, by creating the effects of a revitalizing hair care product, without having to wet and dry the hair afterwards. It can also soften and hydrate dry ends between two shampoos, and it perfectly complements the brand’s Detox Dry Shampoo (100ml, €24.50). The duo is entirely presented in the form of powder (shampoo and conditioner), so no need to use any water!
Here is another volumizing, texturizing powder shampoo by Dry Bar: Triple Dry 3-in-1 (118g, €24.50 or 47g, €13.90). It is used as a light, transparent dry shampoo which absorbs the sebum and leaves the hair fresh and clean. Its formula contains a blend of crystal-clear, microporous minerals to provide any hair type with outstanding volume and a matte, supple texture. In addition, it protects against UV rays by forming a shield on the locks.

Powder texture hairstyling products

And it is now Schwartzkopf Professional’s turn to launch Osis+ Session Label Powder Cloud in hair salons (8g, €26.35), a super-fine texturizing powder in the form of a spray for a flexible hair style and matte finish. Enriched in lava stone, it provides roots or lengths with volume for an airy result, even on fine hair. Thanks to its exclusive pump format, the application is accurate, the quantity delivered well-controlled, and hair styling easier.
