When skincare spreads to mascara…

What if wearing mascara every day provided benefits to our lashes? At least, that is the promise made by many new mascaras following the multifunctional cosmetics trend, which not only thicken, lengthen, and curve lashes, but also fortify them.

~ 4 minutes

‘85% of women use mascara regularly as part of their makeup routine, but… half of them feel a certain discomfort, due to the sensitivity of their eyes and lids,’ according to La Roche-Posay.
That is why the brand, an expert in sensitive skins and eyes, has just launched Respectissime Multi-Dimensions Mascara (8.4ml, €19.90), a new ‘great comfort’ mascara which amplifies, defines, and visibly reinforces lashes for long-lasting protection. Its revitalizing serum formula concentrated in arginine and enriched in reconstituted tear fluid was specially developed for sensitive eyes (redness, irritations, watering). Hypoallergenic, perfume-free, and endowed with a high skin tolerance, it guarantees eye comfort for 16 hours.

Your lashes have never been pampered that well!

One of the first to focus on lash care was Sisley who, last spring, developed a very comprehensive formula (peptides with added vitamins, provitamin B5, rice phytoceramides, castor oil…), which made a difference quite fast (as soon as three weeks, approximately, if used on a daily basis). With Mascara So Curl (€45), not only were lashes longer and thicker, but they were better ‘fixed’ and fell less when cleansing the skin.

The success of this product, quickly out of stock, resulted in chain reactions. Who has not yet found their care mascara for this autumn? Solutions are multiplying in all distribution channels.
• In the selective network, with Chanel (Dimensions Mascara, €32), or Clarins (Supra Volume Mascara, Double Effect Volume Makeup & Care, €28)
The first protects and nourishes, thanks to a lupine extract and a hygroscopic emollient which captures outdoor humidity to reinforce the quality of lashes.
The second one increases the volume of lashes by 17.6% after four weeks (clinical study: volume effect on naked lashes – 30 women).
• In pharmacies, Innoxa has launched Mascara Stimul’Cils (€15), both as a day skincare product and makeup product, to slow down the loss of lashes and multiply their growth by three in a month.
• Supermarkets and hypermarkets do not lag behind. Bourjois has innovated on this segment with the Mascara Volume Glamour Effet Push Up Black Serum (€14.95, as from November). Its formula contains a silk extract and provitamin B5 for even more beautiful lashes use after use. And the very soft ‘silk touch’ brush does not pluck lashes, contrary to a few other brushes that ‘grab’ them too hard and hasten their fall.

Two exclusive creations

Even if these two innovations are not mascaras, they are conditioned as such. The first was created by American brand Nu Skin, which has embarked on the makeup adventure: Mascara Nutriol Eyelash Treatment in the Nu Colour range (€39.40 online). This skincare mascara endowed with a transparent marine formula (derived from marine algae rich in polysaccharides, kelp sulphate oligosaccharides, and essential minerals), is intended to be used as a mascara base or alone, day or night, to make eyelashes shine and revitalize them. It can also be used on brows.
The second one was developed by Too Faced and consists of an original… cleansing mascara (Mascara Melt-Off Cleansing Oil, €17, at Sephora’s)! Just move the brush of this mascara soaked in oil along groomed lashes, wait 30 seconds, and the most resistant mascaras (even waterproof) will be cleansed off. This revitalizing formula protects lashes without the need to rub or pull: racoon eyes days are over!
