CLH classification proposal for Decyl Alcohol

On 28 August 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published Poland’s proposal of an harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) for Decyl Alcohol (surfactant and fragrance).

Decan-1-ol (CAS No.112-30-1; EC No.203-956-9; INCI: Decyl alcohol) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with the functions: Skin conditioning (emollient), Surfactant (foam boosting), Fragrance, Surfactant (cleansing), Viscosity controlling.
The substance is not currently regulated by European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009, nor is it listed in Annex VI of European CLP Regulation 1272/2008.

Poland proposes to classify the substance as follows:
• Skin Irrit. 2, H315 - Causes skin irritation
• Eye Irrit. 2, H319 - Causes serious eye irritation
• Aquatic Acute 1, H400 - Very toxic to aquatic lif (M-Factor = 1),
• Aquatic Chronic 3, H412 - Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effect
