ANSM cosmetics inspections: the results (2/2)

It is with a very thorough – and complementary – presentation at the 13th edition of the regulatory congress held on November 18-19 in Chartres, France, that the French cosmetics market supervisory authorities, the DGCCRF and the ANSM, provided details on their actions and on the results of their inspections. After the regulatory non-conformities found on site, Vanessa Picot, of the ANSM, focused on GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices).

Following the synthesis of the DGCCRF (see our article, DGCCRF cosmetics inspections: the results ) and the presentation of regulatory inspections’ results, which focused on the content of cosmetics safety reports and on the verification of the compliance with the common criteria on the use of claims (see our article, ANSM cosmetics inspections: the results (1/2) ), Vanessa Picot, Inspector for Cosmetic Products, ended her presentation by disclosing the results of GMP inspections. Dominique Labbé, Deputy Director of Inspections at the ANSM, concluded with a few words on the implications of recently published French Decree no. 2015-1417 on cosmetic products.

GMP inspections

A vast campaign of inspections on Good Manufacturing Practices was launched by the ANSM between 2010 and 2013: ‘These first explorations helped us identify how we wanted our GMP inspections and controls to be pursued’, the speaker explained . ‘This year, we focused more on the manufacturers we had inspected, and it should be known that, again, we have found a huge number of non-conformities’.

Over the period 2014-2015, 34 deviations were found in each report, on average, with the worst case reaching 61 deviations. 6% were critical deviations (which can directly impact the product’s quality and threaten …
