Sobriété hydrique : un Guide des bonnes pratiques de la FEBEA

To mark World Water Day (which took place on Friday 22 March), the FEBEA (French Federation of Beauty Companies) has published an industry guide to best practice. Water is a key resource for the cosmetics sector: it is an ingredient (the 1st component in many cosmetics products), an agent in the manufacturing process and an ingredient in products used in the home, particularly for products that are rinsed off in the shower.

But it’s also a fragile resource, as the news regularly reminds us, with some water tables reaching record lows this year and periods of drought accompanied by increasingly frequent restrictions.

Emmanuel Guichard, General Delegate of the FEBEA, says “The responsibility to minimise our water footprint while maintaining the efficiency of our production sites is a priority shared by all. This guide is part of our commitment to preserving water for future generations, while continuing to offer innovative, safe and high-quality products.”

This guide covers a wide range of topics, from reducing water consumption in manufacturing processes to optimising product formulations to minimise water use when used by consumers. It also explores innovative practices such as water recovery and recycling, as well as the adoption of more efficient technologies in industrial processes.
All this is covered in five chapters:
• Measuring your water footprint
• Formulation and raw materials
• Sustainable water management in manufacturing plants …
