Belgium: the consumption of cosmetics on the decline

A study by the Center of Research and information of the Consumers Organisations (CRIOC, a Belgian not-for-profit Foundation) gives a non-waited for result: during the last ten years, the consumption of cosmetics products has changed a great deal … down. Face cares, anti-wrinkles and beauty cares follow the same trend.

The CRIOC study purpose was to check the changes in the habits of consumers regarding cosmetic products, and the budget dedicated to well-being. It is a phone study from 273 young adults, aged 18 to 35, in Wallonia, Flanders and in Brussels. Thus, area by area, the CRIOC has zeroed in on the Belgian consumption habits. Face cares

Men (88%) consume fewer face care cosmetics. A majority of women (56%) do the same. Only a consumer out of four, mainly women, consume more. Almost two out of three consumers use fewer anti-wrinkles products. Nearly all men (97%) do no longer use them, purely and simply. A consumer out of five only has not modified his habits. While a female consumer out of four (26%) has decreased her budget for beauty cares, a small majority of them (52%) use more of them than ten years ago. With very few exceptions, males do not use them.

Body cares
