2020 is coming to an end. And if it is not yet time to make good resolutions, it is time to take stock of the past year and the consequences that Covid-19 has had on the cosmetics industry. It is in this perspective that the Openstreams association has published its 2020 report. The objective: to see how the sector has apprehended the health crisis and what the challenges of tomorrow will be.

Openstreams is an NGO that promotes collaboration and education in beauty.
The data in this report comes from two different sources: a survey of cosmetics professionals from around the world and testimonials collected during a B2B event organized by the association.

The pandemic has forced professionals to review their way of working and reconsider certain priorities.

The explosion of digitalization

Stores were forced to close, fairs and shows were cancelled.
To minimize breakage, brands and other retailers accelerated their digital transition. Thus, new concepts (lives on social networks, personalized and individual consultations on the Internet…) were born in a very short period of time. The goal is to offer consumers a shopping experience as qualitative as the one they can have in a store.
This digitalization has also been felt in the professional events of the sector. Trade shows were cancelled, but replaced by online meetings.
Elaine O’Connell, Director of Beautyworld Middle East, said she “organized a series of webinars to keep our stakeholders informed of the latest trends and opportunities in the current climate. These sessions have been a real success and will likely be there to continue moving forward.”
