Whether online or in-store, the French have high expectations. The latest OpinionWay survey for La Retail Tech gives the general public the chance to express their desires when they visit a store or shop online.

To carry out this study, 1054 people were interviewed between January 22 and 23, 2025.

Results

Before getting to the heart of the matter, respondents were asked about their purchasing power. 48% think it will decrease, and only 13% believe it will increase.
For 2025, the panellists think they will spend as much on the Internet (74%) as in-store (71%).

Different expectations according to sales channel

Opinionway asked respondents what criteria are most important when they go shopping. Here are the results according to sales channel.

On-line
• Prices (56%)
• Product-related services such as warranty and after-sales service delivery, ability to pay in instalments… (33 %)
• Product information (32%)
• Respect for the environment (29%)
• Product availability (26%)
• Advice and recommendations (11%)
• Product personalization (7%)

In store
• Prices (69%)
• Product availability (33%)
• Product information (28%)
• Product-related services such as warranty and after-sales service,
delivery, ability to pay in instalments… (26 %)
• Respect for the environment (22%)
• Advice and recommendations (17%)
• Product personalization (6%).
