Responsible consumption: how do the French behave?

Consommation responsable : comment se comportent les Français ?

As it does every year, Greenflex, in collaboration with ADEME, has presented the results of its responsible consumption barometer. But unlike the other editions, the 2023 edition has been enriched. It includes a description and analysis of different consumption profiles in France.

According to Greenflex, there are six different types of people. They are differentiated by their concerns, as well as their levels of motivation and action in favor of responsible consumption.

The detached (3% of the national population) These people have not changed their consumption habits (to buy less or better). What’s more, they are not concerned about the impact of the environment on their health.

The converted (7%)
91% of them think we should go back to basics and common sense, rather than trying to innovate at all costs.
18% of them systematically buy products in bulk and favor refillable formats whenever possible. They also try to avoid plastic packaging as much as possible.

The reluctants (11%)
Their main concern is the cost of living.
“They are annoyed by responsible consumption. They think too much is being made of the subject, and don’t want to change their habits,” explains Greenflex.

Consumers “on the move” (21%)
They are motivated to change the way they consume to ensure the future of generations to come.
