A rapidly growing and structuring market

The beauty market in Angola is characterized by strong growth (+15%/year), driven by a strong market structure, by the development of points of sale and professionals, the emergence of a middle class and an elite with strong purchasing power, but also by population growth (24.3 million inhabitants today, 49 million by 2045, according to the United Nations). These four elements allow a strong development of the beauty sector in all positions, from entry-level to top-of-the-range, for both individuals and professionals. Beauty and appearance are very important to Angolans who care about their image, regardless of social class. There is almost no local production, 98% of cosmetics and wellness products are imported. The distribution networks, which are in the process of being structured, can be categorised as follows: supermarkets and medium-sized stores, beauty shops, wholesalers, pharmacies, beauty institutes and spas.

Market volume and segmentation

Total imports of cosmetics and beauty products amounted to USD 148 million in 2014. The products most in demand are beauty and make-up products, hair preparations, shaving preparations, deodorants, perfumes and toilet waters.
