Recall of products - 2024

Recalls, marketing bans, import refusals, destruction orders… Non-compliant and/or unsafe cosmetic products detected on the market by control authorities are regularly reported to consumers and competent authorities in third countries, through dedicated European portals (Safety Gate for the European Union, Safety Database for the United Kingdom) or the French database Rappel Conso. All are listed here.

Safety Gate: cosmetics top the list of notified products in 2023Subscribers only

The European Commission published its annual Safety Gate report for 2023 on 14 March 2024. With 32% of notifications recorded, cosmetics were the type of product most frequently reported as presenting a health risk, while the number of total alerts rose sharply: 3412 vs 2117 in 2022.

European consultation on recall notice templateSubscribers only

On 22 January 2024, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the recall notice template it is proposing as part of the implementation of the new General Product Safety Regulation. Interested parties have until 19 February 2024 to submit their comments.

Safety Gate 2022: European Commission publishes its reportSubscribers only

The European Commission has just published its annual report on “Safety Gate”, the European rapid alert system for dangerous non-food products. The most frequently reported type of health risk was related to chemicals. For the second year in a row, toys and cars topped the list of product categories with the highest number of notifications. Cosmetics came third.
