Sunscreens, spray cans, ingredients that shall come with warnings…: some mentions, listed in the regulation, are mandatory on the labels, with some criteria attached. Some of the unavoidable points within this area.
Sun protection products
In Europe, the reference document to design and label sunscreens is still the Commission Recommendation of 22 September 2006 on the efficacy of sunscreen products and the claims made relating thereto; Its provisions have been mandatory since 11 July 2011.
Firstly, the label shall provide the protection category that “should be labeled at least as prominently as the sun protection factor” after the pertaining document.
Protection category and SPF
Four protection categories have been defined:
• Low protection: SPF from 6 to 10
• Medium protection: SPF from 15 to 25
• High protection: SPF from 30 to 50
