In a recent update, the Californian Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) announced that it had added Vinyl Acetate to the Proposition 65 list as a carcinogen.
The announcement was made on 17 January 2025, but the measure has been effective since 3 January.
Vonyl Acetate (CAS No.108-05-4; EC No.203-545-4, INCI: Vinyl Acetate) has been added to Proposition 65 because “this chemical was clearly shown to cause cancer.”
Consumer products, including cosmetics, sold online or in shops in California and containing this substance will therefore have to carry a warning label.
Vinyl Acetate is already on the list of substances that will be banned in California from 1 January 2027.
As a reminder, Vinyl Acetate has been officially banned from use in Europe since 2019 by Regulation (EU) 2019/831 (the first “CMR” Regulation).
