Pay with your phone, it's more sustainable!

Payez avec votre téléphone, c'est plus durable  !

With the massive digitization of society, consumers tend to quickly draw their blue card when making a purchase. However, according to a study conducted by OpinionWay for payment system DeluPay, excessive card use isn’t necessarily good for the planet (or the bank account).

This survey was conducted from March 20 to 21, 2024. 1012 French people were interviewed.

When consumers shop (online or in-store), they expect their means of payment to be secure, easy to use (55%) and fast.

Today, 65% of French people say they pay for purchases with their bankcard.
A further 12% pay with cash. 8% use payment methods such as PayPal, Lydia or DeluPay.
Finally, 7% of consumers use their dematerialized credit card from their phone.

And what about the planet?

“The French are unaware of the environmental impact of different payment methods,” says OpinionWay.
They believe that cash is the most environmentally-friendly payment method, even though it emits 3.5 times more CO2 than credit cards and 38 times more than mobile payment applications.

Nevertheless, the French are ready to make an effort for the planet. 68% think it’s important to reduce the ecological impact of payments.
