Artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies are helping beauty brands create interactive online experiences. And companies that offer these services have access to valuable data that speaks volumes about consumers’ cosmetic preferences. That’s the case with Perfect Corp, publisher of the virtual trial solution YouCam, which just released its 2022 Trend Report.
In the first quarter of the year, YouCam users performed nearly 1.3 billion eye makeup trials. “This data illustrates the fact that women continue to refine their look. This trend started at the beginning of the pandemic, when it was common practice to wear masks due to the health situation.”
For the most part, users have tried:
• New eyebrow shapes (32%)
• False lashes (22%)
• Eyeliner (15%)
• Eye shadows
Focus on lips
Like last year, the lipstick shades most tried by women are:
• Cranberry Pink
• Terracota Red
However, since the health crisis, consumers are returning to more sober looks. “Matrix (a subdued red) and Dusty Rose have gained popularity in many markets,” comments Perfect Corp. “This preference for natural makeup is also reflected in lip texture trends, with sheer color finishes being the most popular in most countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Brazil, Mexico and China. This is a significant change, as matte finishes used to be the rage.”
