As every year, at the closing of the Perfumes & Cosmetics Congress of the Cosmetic Valley which was held in digital on November 4 and 5, 2020, the entire FEBEA team answered questions prepared by the congress participants during the two days of conferences. A session where there was also a lot of discussion on claims (Hypoallergenic, Free-from, Vegan…), labelling (aloe vera, dematerialisation of information, translations…), and the status of products according to the latest developments in the Borderline Manual.

Question – Claims – High tolerance

What evidence would you consider to validate the “High Tolerance” claim?

Overall, we do not recommend the claim “High tolerance”, which is in fact a verbal overbid of the claim “Hypoallergenic” or “Good tolerance”. For the consumer, no matter how informed he or she may be, this does not necessarily allow for a well-informed choice. Furthermore, you are reminded that it was at the request of the DGCCRF that the criteria for assessing sensitive skin were added to the ARPP code. Therefore, be careful not to create other misunderstandings that could ultimately be quite penalizing for the profession.
