From creating a perfume to diffusing it in the air

Between the creation of a perfume and the moment it is diffused in the air, a process takes place which combines fine fragrance and high technology. The steps and skill sets were presented at the latest Olfaction & Perspectives congress held by Cosmetic Valley, ISIPCA, and the Paris-Ile-de-France Chamber of Commerce and Industry on 19 March 2015.

Consumers (and industrial clients) perceive fragrance as having apparent simplicity. Scentys fragrance department manager Aurélie Desmatons compared fragrance to dance, which we also define with the terms ‘simple, light, graceful, delicate, airy, moving, and balanced’. But behind the scenes, it is the product of a rather complex process that involves different skill sets, presented by the speaker: the ability to decipher a universe and translate it into notes, a flair for teaching to explain the codes of the fragrance to an establishment, and keeping track of trends in fine fragrance for the skin and for the home.

Understanding what kind of perfume the client wants 

To satisfy client needs when they are ordering the creation of a new fragrance, one first needs to properly identify the type of fragrance desired. Indeed, clients are not necessarily familiar with the profession and industry of perfumery, and they do not necessarily know how to express their needs.

They are presented with several possibilities. Which will they choose?
Do they want an exotic fragrance?
Does the fragrance need to represent brand values and be loyal to brand DNA?
Must the fragrance be active and stimulate certain areas of the brain? Must it influence …
