The European Chemicals Agency launched a call for comments and evidence on Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and Decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5). The purpose of this consultation is to gather any relevant information for the preparation of an Annex XV restriction dossier under REACH regulation. Inputs can be sent until August 3, 2017.

ECHA will make the same assumptions as for the wash off products made in the SEAC (Committee for Socio-economic Analysis) evaluation of the UK’s proposal on D4/D5 unless other justified information is received.
On February 20, 2017, the European Union had already transmitted to WTO a draft regulation aimed at restricting the use of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D5) to 0.1% in rinse-off cosmetic products. This regulation should be adopted on the second half of 2017.
