A consortium to defend Octocrylene

Un consortium en défense de l'Octocrylene

In response to the “Annex XV” (REACH) restriction dossier currently being prepared by the French Anses, Cosmetics Europe has just launched a call for participation in an “Octocrylene” consortium. Interested parties have until 12 April 2024 to express their interest.

On 11 October 2023, the ECHA (European Chemicals Agency) published France’s intention to introduce restrictions on the marketing of mixtures containing Octocrylene, a UV filter used in sunscreen products and other cosmetics.
The submission of the restriction dossier prepared by Anses, initially scheduled for 4 October 2024, has been postponed to 10 January 2025.

It is against this backdrop that Cosmetics Europe is today calling on companies interested in technical collaboration on Octocrylene to join a consortium.
The aim is to “identify information already available on Octocrylene in cosmetics and personal care products, to jointly generate new information and submit it in relation to a possible REACH Annex XV Restriction Proposal.”

Cosmetics Europe indicates that participants will have to agree to contribute to part of the costs incurred by the consortium. Companies have until April 12 to make themselves known, although it will still be possible to join after this date, and throughout the life of the consortium.
